Whether you’re at home or traveling, you should be aware of your surroundings to ensure your safety at all times.  Here are a few of the best self defense tips to make sure you don’t find yourself the victim of a senseless crime.

Pay Attention to Your Surroundings

When you are pulling up to a gas station, convenience store, or even a bank ATM, make sure you check out your surroundings before parking. It’s best to avoid stopping at these places at night if possible. But if you have to stop and it’s poorly lit and you don’t feel comfortable, continue on until you find somewhere that you have a better feeling about. Chances are you won’t go wrong listening to your gut!

Watch Your Drink

Male or female, not paying attention to your drink in a bar or club is a huge mistake.  Too many people are victims of having their drink spiked which can lead to terrible outcomes. Be smart in public areas and keep your drink with you at all times. Never accept a drink from a stranger unless you have seen it poured yourself.

Don’t Open Your Door to Strangers

We all know that we shouldn’t let strangers into our house. The same goes for you! If a person knocks on your door and requests help, don’t let them in. You can make a call to emergency services on their behalf.  If they’re truly in need of assistance, they’ll understand your caution. A video doorbell can help you communicate with someone without opening your door.

Say No

While we’d like to believe that all people have good intentions, this simply isn’t true. If you are approached by a stranger while alone and you have a bad feeling, get away as fast as you can. Run, scream, make a fool of yourself! Attracting attention can help you stay safe.

As much as we want to be able to trust our fellow humans, the reality is that it’s not always safe to do so. Take caution to make sure you don’t become a victim. For security and peace of mind at home please contact us for a free security consultation.
